The Portage Series is inspired by the late 1700's & early 1800's when adventurers went into the wilderness to trap & trade furs. The popularity of the beaver hat had caused trappers to drive the European beaver to extinction. All eyes turned to a young, expanding nation where explorers seized the opportunity to venture west & north, discovering a vast wealth of natural resources. The Hudson Bay Company & the Northwest Company received furs from the French, English, & the Voyageurs, & eventually the mountain men as exploration opened up the West. A weary traveler takes a brief moment on a sunny spring day to revel in sunshine & consider the earth alive with the prospect of summer. Tools of the trade, always at hand to ensure survival, not the least of which-Buckskin & Black Powder.
