Heads Up

This long anticipated morning arrives in all it’s glory.   Fresh & alive, not only with the sounds of the early rising birds, but of the smell of the damp earth, the mist brushing faces with each advancing step, & the brushstroke of dawn as it reinvents the sky in ruby & the ripe corn in golden hues.  Weeks, years even, have led to this moment of walking side by side with this new pheasant hunter.  First, the stories told upon return from your own hunt, recounting the timing, the retrieval from that special dog, what a beauty this pheasant is, the recipe, sharing the meal & the story is told again.  And, then, the opportunity to pass on the legacy to future generations.  There is  Hunter Safety, target practice, retell the stories to talk about timing,  pick the perfect location.  Just the fun of anticipation & maybe, just maybe, the opportunity to talk about other things: priceless time together.  Hunter ethics to ensure the future:    “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6 And then , once in the field, the opportunity arises,  “Heads Up!”
