Legacy of the Plains
by Marilyn L. Lindemann
A storm rumbling across the vast prairie, resonates 19th Century history & the sound of rolling thunder as millions of Bision stampeded at the crack of a lightning bolt. Native American hunters took only what they needed to feed their families knowing that their existence depended upon this valuable source of food & hides for clothing. Those new to the plains, slaughtered the herds nearly to the point of extinction, not for food, but for their valuable hides. Now a shadow of their former numbers, they maintain a dignified presence, in smaller, protected lands no longer roaming freely the Great Plains.
Undaunted by their fate, when confronted by tourists, they amble slowly across roads creating traffic jams of camera ready tourists. Cows bluff charge those daring to invade the space near their calves, reminding all there is only one warning! Huge bulls still engage powerfully in combat to pass on their genes, ensuring The Legacy of the Plains.
